Navarakizhi is a specialized Ayurvedic treatment that can be highly beneficial for various health conditions and situations.
Navara rice is cooked in a mixture of milk and a specific herbal decoction until it becomes soft and sticky.
The cooked rice is then tied into small linen cloths to form boluses or bundles. These bundles are easy to hold and are used for massaging the body.
The warm boluses are gently massaged over the body. The massage is done with a rhythmic motion, which allows the herbal and nourishing properties of the rice to penetrate deep into the skin.
The treatment usually lasts for about 45 to 60 minutes, and it can be continued for a period of 7 to 14 days, depending on the individual’s health condition and the advice of the Ayurvedic practitioner.
Throughout the massage, the boluses are dipped in warm milk and herbal decoctions to maintain their temperature and therapeutic efficacy.
