Kadivasthi.

Kadivasthi is a traditional Ayurvedic treatment that focuses on relieving back pain and discomfort. This treatment involves applying warm, medicated oil to the lower back area, which helps alleviate pain and provides therapeutic benefits. The term “Kadi” refers to the lower back, while “Vasti” means to hold or contain, which perfectly describes the procedure.

The Stages of Kadivasthi Therapy.

The patient lies face down on a comfortable therapy table, exposing the lower back area. A dough-like ring made from black gram flour or whole wheat flour is prepared and shaped into a circular or oval boundary around the lower back, ensuring it is watertight and secure.

Warm, medicated oil is gently poured into the dough ring, covering the lower back area. The oils used are typically infused with medicinal herbs known for their anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. Common oils include Dhanwantharam oil, Ksheerabala oil, or Mahanarayan oil.

The warm oil is allowed to soak into the affected area for about 30-45 minutes. This duration allows the oil’s warmth and medicinal properties to penetrate deep into the tissues, relaxing muscles and reducing inflammation.

After the treatment time is complete, the oil is carefully removed, and the dough ring is taken off. The treated area is cleaned, and the patient may be advised to rest for a short while to allow the treatment’s effects to settle.
